The world-new variety of Oncidium orchid—Oncidium Gower Ramsey “Honey Snow”

The first Oncidium Orchid variety developed by Dr. Yeh’s research group in 2012 is Oncidium Gower Ramsey “Honey Snow” with white floral color. This new variety is derived from the current cultivated variety Honey Angel through using petal-specific RNA interference technology (Liu et al.,2019). The distinct difference between the two varieties is the floral color. “Honey Snow” is with white color compared with the yellow flower color on Honey Angel. Both varieties are similar in physiology and genetic background. The unique white flower will soon make its entrance in the Oncidium Orchid market. It is expected to gain major accolades within the exploding Oncidium cut flower world. The Environmental biosafety assessment of the new variety has been approved by Council of Agriculture (Ko et al., 2019), Taiwan, 2017.

The application of “Type I Use license” to Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Japan is ongoing.
